This program is supported in part by a grant from the Needham Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
For a number of years Needham has organized a number of inspiring, entertaining and thought provoking celebrations of the Martin Luther King, Jr., Day in January. The central focus of these celebrations has been children. Many of the performances have been by children for children.
Several Needham performers, such the Plugged-In Band and school-based groups as well as performers from neighboring communities, such as Dr. Dennis Slaughter (http://www.brotherdennis.com/home.html), Director of the Boston Community Choir and the Boston Japanese Chorus have performed at these celebrations. These celebrations have been sponsored by the following Needham organizations in addition to the Needham Diversity Initiative: The Clergy Association, Human Rights Committee, the School Department and its METCO Program. |
